The Community Justice Coalition (CJC) sent a representative to Turkey to interact with those leading the developments, and to bring back information that would assist with the CJC’s work. The CJC has since issued a media release on the conference to Australian and Turkish media. It was ICPA’s 5th Technology in Corrections (TIC) Conference. During the conference attendees and speakers discussed the opportunities and problems associated with new technologies, creating a space for solutions to be shared. For example, the digital divide whereby exiting prisoners are socially disabled was discussed, including how digital access may be used to improve prisoner wellbeing and reduce recidivism. The conference also servee to create relationships between experts and institutions across the world and to strengthen the community working in corrections. Delegates came away with a greater understanding of how technology can be used ethically to ensure the safety of prisoners, staff and the community.
