Defence Physical Visits Silverwater July 12,

On Saturday July 12, our team surveyed families of prisoners entering the Silverwater Correctional Complex regarding their opinions on the replacement of physical visits with video calls. The survey results revealed that nobody wanted to stop the physical visits. They were horrified!

Macquarie Correctional Centre (Wellington) is running a 3-month trial ending 27 July. Physical visits have stopped on Sundays and only video calls are available for the day, according to the Commissioner in a letter sent to us.

We asked him to stop from using the word “visits” when referring to video calls as it is misleading.

We asked the Australian Electoral Commission and the Commissioner of Corrective Services for a plebiscite to allow prisoners to express their views on the replacement of Sunday physical visits with video calls. The battle continues… Visits index page
