Overview
Just Us is a newspaper dedicated to both informing and engaging prisoners ahead of the Federal Election. As the only publication of its kind distributed within prisons and mental health institutions, Just Us plays an incredibly important and unique role in Australia’s democratic processes. South Australia undermines this as the only jurisdiction in Australia to block the distribution of the newspaper, violating the constitutional rights of prisoners and preventing them from casting an informed vote in the fast approaching Federal Election.
With the support of Allens, Justice Action has filed proceedings against Chief Executive of the Department for Correctional Services, David Brown in an attempt to overturn his decision and uphold the rights of prisoners to receive political information.
