This proposal asks that Rose Cottage, Callan Park, be secured as a consumer-led mental health centre: held in the public interest, consistent with the long-term vision for the Park, and delivered by and for the people it serves.
The Centre would be home to iExpress, a ready-to-run communication service for people in prisons and locked psychiatric wards, alongside a suite of peer-led programs.
It would be managed by an experienced social enterprise, with funding available immediately. With the law governing Callan Park now changed and Rose Cottage still vacant, there is a narrow window to secure the building for a mental health purpose.
We are beginning discussions with the Inner West Council, individuals and other NGOs to ensure that Rose Cottage is controlled by mental health consumers as a new expression of their community.
